I’m Not Alone Walk Of NZ

Yay, I’ve done it – I have walked the length of New Zealand!

Thanks to those that walked with me, help fundraise and helped me out in many ways. It has been a fantastic journey that I have gained so much from.

Next challenge – watch this space…

What was the I’m Not alone Walk of NZ…

Hello, I’m Kylie and for the past couple of years I have thought it would be a great challenge to walk the length of New Zealand

BUT….When I told my husband about my plans, his main comment was: “You’re not doing that on your own!”

From his comment I expanded on the “Not Alone” theme:

  • What if I had to have someone always walking with me?
  • What if I and the other walkers raised money for the Mental Health Foundation along the way?

So I’m doing it!

I have already completed the North Island in 2014 and now I’m taking on the challenge of the South Island.

Each day, I will have to get up, no matter how many blisters I have, no matter how sore my legs are or what the weather is like, and get walking.  The length of the country is a long way to drive, let alone walk!

The South Island walk will kick off in Wellington on 27th October 2015. The longest day walking will be 35 km and there are many days with a lot of rugged terrain. It will take me 87 days to get to the bottom of the country. Each section, I need someone to accompany me walking so I am Not Alone.

I’m looking for people to join me and be part of this challenge. Check out Walk with Kylie in the South Island for more information

Hi Kylie, Darryn & Sharleen here.
We met you on the Mangawhai cliffs walk and had a wee chat at the end on the beach.
Just wanted to say how nice it was to meet you and your walking companion that day.
Wishing you all the very best with the rest of your walk.
You are a true inspiration and a great ambassador for this special cause.

    Hello Kylie,
I live at Ruakaka and the trail goes right down the beach here. I’ve been thinking of doing the walk but its probably too long for me, However – walking from Marsden Point to here would be a good start. Let’s know your plans for this area and will see if it can happen. Go girl… regards, Carol

Hi there Kylie, Great idea, and cause. I’ve been thinking since having my own experience recently that I would like to volunteer to help mental health in nz in some way. This is a great way to start. When do you think you will you have info on the south island part? 🙂

      Hi Sam
I’m not planning out the South Island until I finish the North Island. The reason for this, is I think I will learn a lot and discover things I need to change from the North Island experience. I’ll be able to apply those learnings and then tackle the South Island. Really looking forward to it though.
      Thanks Kylie

    Hi Kylie,
I have just finished reading your article. It certainly is a worthwhile goal and I wish you every success with it. I would love to put my hand up and pledge my support to walk with you for a day and help raise funds for the Mental Health Foundation. I am flexible with my time so would be happy to fit in with your plans. I live in Pukekohe with my husband and adult son. You are right, everyone has a story to tell and I am no different. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi there amazing idea! I was wondering if you would consider having more then one companion on a day? For instance in the big centers if you could have a group of people it would raise even more awareness =) I’ll be in Wellington at the end of the walk and would love to help gather some troops together to finish your walk with a huge show of support =)
    Love to hear your thoughts,
    All the best!!

Hello!! Good on you – you are realising a dream I’ve always had. I have a motor disability, so to do the full length of the country is beyond me, but I’d really, really love to join you for a day once you hit the central plateau/Bay of Plenty area. I could do a day with you from Rotorua, Taupo, Turangi, or anywhere within an hour or two’s drive from Napier.

I am not so disabled I can’t keep pace with you…mostly it affects my hands, arms and torso/neck.

I’m not sure I’m fit enough to join you (I wouldn’t want to slow you up!) and it sounds like you have a few walkers already from Rotorua. Is there another way I could assist/support? Perhaps offer my comfy spare bedroom in the case of an over-nighter (or two, if they don’t mind sharing a double bed) who are traveling to join you? Some tasty fresh-squeezed lemonade waiting along your route? Maybe a fresh pair of socks?

    Let me know, my friend!
