What I have been up to…
The last month has been about lifting my training time to doing 4+ hours on my week day walks (when work time allows me) and longer tramps in the weekends. I have been trying to go away weekends and experience huts since that will be my main form of accommodation in the South Island (I have purchased my hut pass from DOC). I have been wearing the pack weight I will carry so I am used to the feel of that on my back and feet. I have been acquiring the last of the gear I need and testing it out to see if it will do the job properly.
I have also been booking accommodation when I go into towns (I’m going to need a shower and washing machine) and getting the walkers joining me sussed with their details too.
Next up is bagging up my food supplies, ready to post to places along the trail. Thanks to Rob who loaned me his dehydrator so I could create some yummy meals that will be tasty, light and quick to cook. And…of course more training!
